What makes a meal?

Participating in the National School Lunch Program requires us to serve foods that fit within a set meal  pattern.  The following are the components for a complete breakfast and lunch.  Students are allowed to refuse one item at breakfast and up to two at lunch.  Refusing the items does not change the price of the meal.

 

What's for Breakfast!

Fluid milk 1/2 pint (1 cup)
Fruit/vegetable/full strength juice 1/2 cup
Select one serving from each of the following components or two servings from one component:
Meat/meat alternate 1 ounce
Breads/grains 1 slice (1 oz.)

Let's do lunch!

Fluid milk 1/2 pint (1 cup)
Fruit/vegetables
(2 or more servings)
3/4 to 1 cup
Breads/grains 15 1 oz. servings per week
Meat/meat alternate 2 ounces
